The SMARTCORE tech is essentially a metal heating blade inserted into the middle of the tobacco stick, where it uses electromagnetism to heat up, which in turn gradually heats the tobacco surrounding it. The new heating blade has been created by IQOS specifically for the Iluma Terea tobacco sticks and is used to produce consistent flavour and vapour production, as the tobacco is more evenly and thoroughly heated.

The IQOS Iluma devices induction system is a new form of ‘heat not burn’ technology. Heat not burn systems are believed  to reduce risk of exposure to some levels of carcinogenic chemicals by up to 95%, compared to other tobacco products which use combustion. This is due to the fact that heated tobacco devices create an inhalable vapour using the tobacco sticks, and as they’re heated instead of burned they don’t produce ash, tar or smoke.  As they’re not burned the TEREA tobacco sticks also don’t cause unpleasant lingering odours after they’ve been used, so not only do they have reduced risk potential, but there’s also no lingering scent after you’re finished with them.
